About Junkyard Surf

  • Junkyard Surf is Australia’s surfboard marketplace app built for surfers, shapers, and local surf shops. It’s a safe and easy way to buy and sell surfboards, wetsuits, fins, and surf gear with verified sellers and secure Stripe payments.

  • Unlike general marketplaces, Junkyard Surf is designed specifically for surf gear. Every listing uses surf-specific filters like board type, size, and fin setup, making it easier to find exactly what you want while keeping the community safe and local.

  • You can download the Junkyard Surf app on iOS or Android by searching Junkyard Surf in the App Store or Google Play. Once installed, you can browse boards, create listings, and connect directly with local surfers and shops.

  • We’re launching in Australia first, but we have plans to expand to other surf-heavy markets like New Zealand, Americas, Europe and Asia.

  • Open My Junkyard and scroll to the bottom. Select Delete Account and confirm your choice. Once deleted, your profile and listings will be permanently removed.

  • For account or app support, visit the Contact Page and submit a message through the form. The team will get back to you as soon as possible.

Buying Surfboards and Gear on Junkyard Surf

  • Open the app and browse boards by category, size, brand, or location. Once you find one you like, tap Make an Offer directly from the listing. The seller can accept or reject your offer, and when it’s accepted you can pay securely in-app through Stripe using Apple Pay, Google Pay, or your debit or credit card.

  • Yes. Most surfers meet locally to inspect boards before completing payment. Always meet in a public place such as a surf shop, car park, or beach, and keep all communication inside the app to stay protected.

  • You’ll find everything from shortboards and longboards to mid-lengths, soft-tops, and custom shapes from local shapers and surf shops. Every listing includes details like board length, width, thickness, and volume to help you find your perfect match.

  • Offers are sent directly from the listing page. Sellers can either accept or reject your offer. Once accepted, you can pay through the secure checkout. You can also message sellers anytime through in-app chat to ask questions or arrange pickup.

  • Payments are processed securely through Stripe. You can pay using Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a debit or credit card. Funds are held safely until the sale is confirmed, protecting both buyer and seller.

  • Yes. You can send an offer straight from the listing or negotiate through chat. Once both parties agree, payment is completed securely in the app.

  • Junkyard Surf focuses on local handovers. Once a sale is confirmed, pickup is arranged directly between buyer and seller in chat. Shipping isn’t handled by the platform, but both parties can agree on delivery if needed

  • Yes. All sellers must verify their identity and bank details through Stripe before receiving payouts. Payments are held securely until the sale is confirmed, ensuring both sides are protected.

  • If something isn’t right, message the seller first to resolve it. If that doesn’t work, visit the Contact Page and submit your order details. The Junkyard Surf support team will review the issue and help reach a fair outcome

Selling Surfboards and Gear

  • You can list a board directly from the Home screen. Tap the Create Listing (+) button on the bottom navigation bar, then add your photos, board details (type, brand, dimensions, condition), price, and location. Once saved, your listing goes live instantly and is visible to nearby buyers

  • Yes. Listings with clear, well-lit photos sell faster. Include shots of the top deck, bottom, rails, and fins, plus any dings or repairs. Good photos help your board stand out and give buyers confidence.

  • Keep your description clear and detailed. Mention the board type, brand, size, condition, and any extras such as fins or a leash. Be upfront about any wear or repairs to build trust with buyers.

  • Use the price chart on the Sell Page as a guide. It shows common price ranges for different board types and helps you list competitively. You can adjust your price later if needed, as long as there are no active offers.

  • Listings can be edited at any time as long as there are no active offers. If you have one or more offers, you’ll need to reject all offers before you can make changes. The app doesn’t include a pause function, so if your board is temporarily unavailable, delete the listing and relist it later.

  • Yes. You can list as many boards or pieces of surf gear as you like. Each item gets its own listing, making it easier for buyers to find what they’re looking for.

  • No. It’s free to create and post listings on Junkyard Surf. A small platform fee applies only when your item sells. Full details are available on the Fees Page.

  • The small fee helps cover secure Stripe transactions, fraud protection, and platform development, ensuring a safe and reliable experience for both buyers and sellers.

  • If the sale is completed through the app, your board will be marked as sold automatically. If you sell your board elsewhere, go to your listing, select Delete Listing, and choose the most accurate reason when prompted. This helps keep listings current and improves the experience for other users.

  • If your board’s brand or model isn’t available when creating a listing, submit a Brand or Model Request through the form on the Submit Brand/Model Page.

This process helps keep the marketplace accurate and supports real shapers and surf brands.

    After submitting the form:

    • Return to the app and select Other to finish your listing

    • The Junkyard Surf team will review and approve valid submissions within 48 hours

    • You’ll receive a notification once your brand or model is added

    • You can then edit your listing to update it with the correct details

This ensures all listings stay authentic and verified across the platform.

    • Add detailed photos and accurate specs

    • Use clear titles with brand, model, and size

    • Set a fair price using the Sell Page chart

    • Keep your listings up to date

    • Complete every field so your board appears in more filters

Well-filled listings appear more often to buyers searching by category or location.

Surf Shops, Shapers & Services

  • Yes. Surf shops, shapers, and other surf services can all use the Junkyard Surf app to reach local surfers. Each listing appears in search results and on the map, helping nearby buyers discover your shop or brand instantly.

  • You can list boards directly through the app, just like any user. Tap the Create Listing (+) button on the home screen, add your board details (type, brand, size, condition, and price), and set your location. Once live, your listings appear in local searches and map view, making it easy for surfers to find your boards nearby.

  • Yes. Shapers can create listings as Custom Orders to promote their shapes and attract new customers.
Select Custom Order when creating your listing to show that the board will be shaped to order. Add details such as base model, dimensions, turnaround time, and pricing so surfers know what’s available. This helps connect shapers directly with surfers looking for custom boards.

  • A small platform fee applies only when a sale is completed through the app. There are no costs to list boards or custom orders. Full details are available on the Fees Page.

  • Yes. You keep full control of your own stock and sales. The app simply helps you reach more surfers locally and online. You can still sell boards in-store, by message, or directly through the app.

  • Yes. You can list as many boards or pieces of surf gear as you like. Each item gets its own listing, making it easier for buyers to find what they’re looking for.

  • Surf shops and shapers appear on the map and in the Surf Services Directory inside My Junkyard, making it easy for nearby surfers to find you by category or location. To maintain trust and quality for our community, only businesses registered in Australia are allowed to be listed in the Directory.

  • If your brand or model doesn’t appear during listing setup, you can submit a Brand or Model Request through the Submit Brand/Model Page.
Once approved, you’ll receive a notification and can edit your listings to update them with the correct brand or model.

  • If the sale is completed through the app, your board will be marked as sold automatically. If you sell your board elsewhere, go to your listing, select Delete Listing, and choose the most accurate reason when prompted. This helps keep listings current and improves the experience for other users.

KYC, Payments & Fees

  • KYC (Know Your Customer) verification is a secure process handled by Stripe that confirms a seller’s identity and bank details before payouts can be released. It helps keep the marketplace safe and ensures payments go to verified sellers only.

  • Completing KYC is required before you can receive payouts for any sales made through Junkyard Surf. It helps prevent fraud and protects both buyers and sellers by confirming that all sellers are genuine.

  • You will be prompted to complete KYC after creating your first listing or before your first sale. It is best to complete verification early so your payouts are not delayed once a board sells.

  • No. Only sellers need to complete Stripe verification. Buyers can check out securely using their preferred payment method.

  • All payments are processed securely through Stripe, with support for Apple Pay, Google Pay, debit cards, and credit cards. Once payment is made in the app, the sale is complete, and the funds move instantly into Junkyard Surf’s Stripe account ready for payout to the seller.

  • After the sale is completed, Stripe transfers the payout directly to the seller’s nominated bank account, usually within two to three business days. First-time sellers may experience a short delay while Stripe finalises their KYC verification.

  • There is no cost to create listings. A small platform fee applies only after a successful sale, covering transaction security, fraud protection, and ongoing platform development. You can view full details on the Fees Page.

  • All listing prices include GST. Businesses are responsible for managing their own tax obligations, including whether their listed prices are GST-inclusive

  • If there is an issue with a sale, start by messaging the other party in-app to try to resolve it directly. If that does not work, visit the Contact Page and include your order details. The support team will review and help resolve the issue fairly.

Safety, Security & Trust

  • Yes. Every seller on Junkyard Surf must verify their identity through Stripe before receiving payouts. This process confirms their details and helps ensure all listings come from real surfers, shops, or shapers.

  • All transactions are processed securely through Stripe, a trusted global payment provider. Buyers can pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, debit, or credit cards, and sellers receive payouts only after verified sales. Junkyard Surf never stores payment or banking details.

  • It is safest to pay through the app using Stripe. If you choose to meet locally, always meet in a public place such as a surf shop, beach car park, or café. Inspect the board before confirming the sale, and keep all communication inside the app

  • All communication happens within the app, which keeps your personal contact information private. Never share your phone number, email, or bank details with other users outside the app.

  • Be cautious of users who ask to move conversations outside the app, request direct transfers, or offer deals that seem unrealistic. Always use in-app payments and report any suspicious activity to support.

  • Open the user’s profile or listing, tap the More (⋮) menu, and select Report. Choose the reason that best fits the issue. The Junkyard Surf team reviews all reports carefully to keep the marketplace safe and authentic.

  • If you have paid for a board and the seller cancels or fails to provide it, contact support through the Contact Page. The Junkyard Surf team will investigate the issue and, once confirmed, process a refund through Stripe to your original payment method.

  • If a buyer misses the arranged pickup, message them through the app to reschedule. If they remain unresponsive, you can reject the offer and relist your board for sale.

  • If there is an issue with a sale, start by messaging the other party in-app to try to resolve it directly. If that does not work, visit the Contact Page and include your order details. The support team will review and help resolve the issue fairly.

  • Junkyard Surf combines Stripe’s identity verification with internal monitoring to detect fake listings, scams, or suspicious activity. This helps maintain a safe and trusted environment for surfers, shops, and shapers.

Surfboard Guides & Tips

  • You can list any board type on Junkyard Surf, including shortboards, longboards, fish, mid-lengths, soft-tops, twin fins, guns, and custom boards. Both new and used boards are supported, and surf shops or shapers can list their stock directly in the app.

  • Board size depends on your skill level, weight, and the type of waves you surf. Beginners usually start with higher-volume boards for extra stability, while experienced surfers often choose shorter, lower-volume shapes for performance. You can browse listings by size and volume filters to help compare boards that suit you.

  • Board volume, measured in litres (L), indicates how much floatation your board provides. A higher volume means easier paddling and more stability, while a lower volume offers more control and manoeuvrability. Volume can be found printed on most boards or listed in the description.

  • When listing your surfboard, include the following details for best visibility:

    • Length (tip to tail)

    • Width (widest point)

    • Thickness (deck to bottom)

    • Volume (in litres)

Accurate dimensions help buyers compare boards and ensure your listing appears in relevant filter searches.

  • Yes. Including the fin setup helps buyers know what to expect. Common options include FCS, FCS2, Futures, or single-fin box systems. Mention whether fins are included and describe the layout, such as thruster, quad, or twin.

  • Be honest and detailed. Mention any pressure dings, yellowing, or repairs. Use the condition rating system in the app (New, Like New, Good, Fair) and upload photos that clearly match that rating. Transparent listings build trust and sell faster

  • Resale value depends on the brand, model, condition, and demand. Well-known shapers and popular models generally hold value longer. Clean, well-maintained boards with minimal repairs attract more interest and higher offers.

  • Yes. Custom boards from respected shapers often perform strongly in resale, especially if they are in good condition and designed for popular wave types. Make sure to include the shaper’s name, specs, and intended conditions in the description.

  • Boards from trusted brands or recognised shapers, priced fairly and in good condition, tend to sell the quickest. Shortboards, twin fins, and mid-lengths are often the most in demand among Australian surfers.

  • Yes. The Junkyard Surf app is built for mobile listings. Tap the Create Listing (+) button on the home screen to upload photos, add board details, and publish your listing directly from your phone.
